Who?
Legal interpreting requires highly trained interpreters with specialized knowledge, skills and abilities and are prepared to work in very complex situations. Interpreting in legal settings requires the interpreter to be beyond completely bilingual; they must possess awareness and familiarity with the specialized legal terminology used during legal procedures but also be able to quickly adapt to both formal and informal speech registers, dialects, jargon and have the ability to understand language varieties and nuances in meanings. Legal interpreters are also very adapt at the variety of interpreting modes – simultaneous and consecutive being the most common. What?
Legal interpreting requires certified language interpreters that are placed under oath to interpret for a variety of legal settings. Legal interpreters have completed specific training and have been tested on their language skills, interpreting skills and their understanding of the role of the interpreter in legal settings.

There are a variety of certifications a legal interpreter can hold and it is dependent on the language pair as well as where they reside. There is a federal legal interpreter certification program and most states have a state legal interpreter certification program as well as general training for legal interpreters when a certification exam does not exist. Where?
Legal interpreting occurs in a variety of locations, both in-court and out-of-court. Often times they are requested for in-jail meetings or interviews or to travel to private attorney’s offices. It is also common for our language interpreters to travel for legal proceedings both nationally and internationally. Legal interpreting is commonly requested via video and telephone as well. When?
Legal interpreting occurs at all times and interpreters are accustomed to working very intense schedules. Some complex legal situations require an interpreter to work on the case for years. As legal issues occur at all times, it is also common for a legal interpreter to be requested for evening and weekend assignments. Certain circumstances require 3 or more interpreters to work on a specific project. We will work with you to determine if this applies to your needs. INGCO International is open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week to provide you with the interpreter services where and when you need them.
